Dreaming of Jacksonville, FL road trip!
Posted in Dreaming, Jacksonville, Road Trips, Uncategorized on July 13, 2009
Next week I will be heading out with the two kids sans husband for a road trip to Jacksonville, Florida. I am dreaming of a smooth trip and two happy kiddies. I am dreaming of a car with no flat tires, check oil lights, or funny noises! We are going to visit dear friends so most of the trip will be spent catching up on time missed (and visiting one very cute brand newborn baby!), but if we have time here are a few things that I might be checking out:
1. Visit the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
2. Maybe take a drive to St. Augustine while we are there and see Florida’s Oldest House and Castillo de San Marcos.
3. Museum of Science and History
4. Friendship Fountain – I can’t tell if this is still under renovation. If it isn’t, we will definitely check it out…the kids love fountains!
Have you been to Jacksonville, Florida? If you have places that I should add to my itinerary, please comment!
Be sure to stop by Mother of all Trips and see what Mara is dreaming about…

It’s road trip time. There’s so many good road trips to follow on all these blogs, it’s like I’m doing even more traveling by association. Have a great trip.
Hope your trip will be smooth like you dream of.
I have really been enjoying reading about all the summer road trips lately! Makes me want to hop in my car and do some extra traveling before school starts!
Fingers crossed!
You’re braver than I am – I’m yet to do a solo road trip (and since DH is so much better at entertaining the kids than I am, it does truly frighten me to contemplate doing one). I hope you have a great time and I can’t wait to read about your adventures.
Skip the MOSH, we thought it was overpriced and not much to do.
There’s Kingsley Plantation and Ft George Island SP up from the zoo side of town, Big/Little Talbot Island are also nice. If you will be on the east side of town, Hanna park is a good place to take the kids on an afternoon. Also is the Hand’s On Museum (though I’ve never been) and a waterpark (Adventure Landing).
Alligator farm at St Augustine is expensive but cool (bring bug spray), there’s also the light house.
This will be my first time solo with both the kids at this age. Last trip I took solo, we only had one and he was about 10mo so he was still content just hanging out. We will see what happens!
If you feel the itch to try a meet up at the zoo, just send me an email (no pressure). Next week is a down week for us and I don’t have any plans other than cleaning.
Keep the Secret flowing and you’ll have a great time. Looking forward to reading about the trip.
Solo road trip…no problem! Those are my specialty
. Hope this “road trip survival guide will help you out http://www.familyadventureguidebooks.com/2009/06/23/travel-tip-tuesdayroadtrip-survival-guide/ .
