Long ago when I was a single mom w/son, I used to pack Oreo's cookies and Cheezits for our road wandering. 'Hideously messy and forget about nutrition. Seems like another lifetime, and maybe it was. 'Second marriage, second son and now I pack homemade smoked almonds (whole almonds, low heat, toss w/soy sauce, more low heat) and dried pineapple. 'Not sure how much more healthy this is but the 12 yo will eat it without too much angst between stops. How times have changed.

These are some great ideas!

I often take along Goldfish in baggies and I ALWAYS keep fruit snacks in my diaper bag. The kids only get them when we're out, so they're special, and they keep well, no matter what the weather. Those fruit snacks have gotten me out of a bind countless times!
