Let it Snow – Foley, Alabama

This is the closest that we will get to snow this year.

Last year we were sledding down mountains of real snow in Germany.  It snowed on Christmas morning, the kids went sledding every day and my husband was able to ski as often as he wished.  This year, we are staying in sunny Florida where yesterday it was 78 degrees and I turned on the air conditioner.  Seriously…the air conditioner.  Today it did drop down to the 50’s so the air went off but we have no hope of seeing snow this year although I do have to admit we had little snowflakes fall a few years ago…they just didn’t hit the ground!

Last weekend we headed to Foley, Alabama to check out Fish River Tree Christmas Farm and see snow at the annual Let it Snow event.  Yes…in the deep south we got to see snow.  It was man-made snow…more like ice chunks, but it was great big fun for the kids!  There was a children’s village, food, and performers.  The kids thought it was fantastic and we enjoyed seeing them play in the snow.  This is what snow in the south looks like!

Haha, I love that they make snow. As Canadians, we are always trying to get away from the snow and that is why we are in India:) I wish that I had some air conditioner now. It is so hot here and we can’t escape the heat. My skin is burnt and I just want to sit inside a cool place. Ahhh, the grass is always greener eh?!

Aww.. Look at how happy he was playing in the snow – man made or not. 🙂 Even here in Atlanta, it’s not often that we will see snow either. So we have to drive up to Tennessee or North Carolina for some snow in the mountain.

Our city trucks in snow once a year for the kids to play in too. Its so much fun for those of us who don’t have to deal with it every day.

Ha! As someone who’s always lived in relatively mild winter climates, I say bravo for man-made snow. It’s like the best of both worlds! I don’t know if they still do it, but there used to be an outdoor ice skating rink in San Diego. Occasionally you’d see someone out there in shorts.

We’re still just experiencing flurries here in the Detroit area, although it’s been cold, cold, cold the past few days!
I love snow, and this looks like lots of fun 🙂

What a fun thing for the kids to do – in Alabama of all places!

There is something that kids love about snow, or perhaps it brings out the inner kid in us all. I’m generaly a sun worshiper so I quite like the idea that you can have the best of both in one day.

Great example of how kids can get past the details and jump right into the fun. Hope you are doing well & happy holidays!

Fun, fun, and more fun! My kids and I would love something like this. Hoping we can see some real snow soon since the moutains around us are now white. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

My folks are in Alabama too and I know what you mean because we are always excited when we get to see snow. Just so you know, in Atlanta, they are doing something called Snow Mountain this year where they have tons of fake snow on the mountain with sledding and all sorts of cool games. It looks really fun and we wanted to do it when we were up there for Christmas but didn’t have the chance.
