Disney’s Aulani – Oahu, Hawaii

When my husband and I went to Hawaii on our tenth anniversary last year, we saw the shell of the Aulani, a Disney resort and spa.  It was still under construction so we just saw it from the road but it looked amazing even then.  Recently they held their grand opening and lots of reviews and posts are popping up all over the Internet.  Going to visit Hawaii with our kids is something we are thinking about doing next year but we will probably visit another island this time.  We might not be seeing the Aulani anytime soon but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream about a trip!  I compiled posts from some of my favorite travel bloggers and writers about their visits for today’s Travel Blogger Tuesday!  Look no further for information…just follow these links!

Because of Tropical Storm Lee, we spent a lot of time in the house this long Labor Day weekend!  We bought a beautiful new daybed for my daughter’s room but we had to gut it first to make room for it!  We were forced to spend the past few days trapped in our house watching the tornado warnings so we utilized our time indoors to clean out her room.  In the evenings, I was finally able to catch up on my blog reading.  I opened up my Google Reader and the number was at 1000+.  Apparently, it stops counting past 1000?!?!  While I was clearing it out, I found lots of great posts so I thought I would share a few with you!

TwinCitiesGal from The Vacation Gals shares her Tips for Visiting South Dakota Badlands National Park.  There are some great tips if you are planning a trip and if you are just dreaming about a trip you will love the pictures!

Debbie at Delicious Baby shares her experience at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.  Clearwater, Florida is an area that we haven’t spent a lot of time in even though we have lived in Florida for fifteen years!  It is definitely time to make a trip!

I love these jump shots from Amy at The Q Family Adventures!  Don’t know what a jump shot is? Be sure to click through the link!

It is no secret that I love to purchase Christmas ornaments on our family travels, so I love Anne’s post about her ornament souvenirs!

Trekaroo shares tips for taking a family road trip without looking like the Griswold’s!  I think these tips are great and we use several of them whenever we road trip!

Travel Blogger Tuesday – The Posting Other Places Edition

travel-blogger-tuesdayEven though things have been a little quiet here this week, I have been a busy bee.  Besides getting sick, my daughter getting sick, going out of town, coming back in town, going out of town and coming back in town again, hanging with friend’s visiting and so much more, I have been writing.  Sort of.  I should say I have been catching up but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel…school starts in a few weeks and I will have more time to devote to the projects that I have been working on.  Meanwhile, I would appreciate it if you give these friends a little visit!

southern child myrtle beach

On page 99 of the August/September 2011 issue of Southern Child Magazine, I have a little article about a few family-friendly things to do in Myrtle Beach, SC.  We had so much fun checking out all the different activities and I was glad to share some of our favorites!

If you haven’t found my pal Traci’s blog, Go Big or Go Home, you are missing out!  She packs her family up and travels to some of the BIGGEST places this world has to offer!  I was so excited when I got to guest post for her…luckily I actually got it written and sent to her though my pictures leave much to be desired.  For something that we visit on a regular basis, apparently it has been awhile since we visited as tourists with camera in hand!  See my post about the World’s Largest Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida.

Over at Traveling Mom, I am still writing as Southern Traveling Mom!  I wrote about our travel planning style (here is a hint…we don’t have one!).  I also shared a book review of Kids Love Interstate 95, a handy book that guides down I-95 all the way from Pennsylvania to the bottom tip of Florida!

Speaking of Trekaroo, could you take a moment and vote for Sharlene and Michelle of Team Trekaroo?  They participated in the Race to the Alamo this past week but voting is still going on.  You can vote once a day and you even have a chance to win a trip to San Antonio for yourself!

travel-blogger-tuesdayHere are a few travel related posts that I am enjoying this week!

Suitcases and SippyCups shares Ten Games to Play at an Art Museum.  We did not stop going to art museums just because we have young kids and we love doing the post card suggestion!  We have found that some smaller museums don’t have a large selection of art postcards, so I do a little bit of research and print off pictures of art from the museum we are going to.  The kids use these pictures as a tool to complete an art scavenger hunt!  Next time we go to an art museum, I am going to try her suggestion to have the kids try the freeze frame!

Kidventurous shares Seven Underground Adventures for You and Your Kids.  We love to explore caves when available!  There is something magical and mysterious about those crazy rock formations underground.  I would like to add Florida Caverns State Park!  We love to make the two hour drive to go camping and explore these small but fascinating caves!

Tonya at Live the Adventure shares information about a visit to the Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site in Cartersville, Georgia.  We have Indian Mounds (Fort Walton Temple Mounds) near us that I have yet to visit.  I am putting that on my summer travel list!  I know my son would love it.

Travel Blogger Tuesday

travel-blogger-tuesdayIt has been awhile since I have shared some of the posts I have been reading lately so here are a few of my favorites from the week!

Canada’s Adventure Couple, Dave and Deb, share their experience Canyoning Jordan, An Eco-Adventure Thrill Ride.  The pictures are amazing.  This is not something I would have had on my radar before seeing these pictures and reading about their adventure but now, who knows…one of the many reasons I love to read travel blogs!

Heather, the Texas Destination Guroo for Trekaroo, is sharing her road trip tips on the Trekaroo blog.  The tip I am going to test on our next road trip is to purchase window clings to play with in the car.

My husband and I are really missing Oahu this week so I loved reading Kara’s, from The Vacation Gals, postcard from Oahu!

I am loving all of Amy’s Disney adventures at the Q Family Adventures.  She has explored some spots we have yet to visit at Disney and I can’t wait to check some of these spots out when I head there with my mom and my sister’s family in July.  We will definitely be dining at the Yak and Yeti restaurant on her recommendation!

Monique, at Mo Travels, shares her review of an EatSmart Digital Scale.  I have a pretty decent digital luggage scale but it is way more bulky than this one.  I might have to check it out!

Lastly, I would appreciate it if you check out my post at Traveling Mom about our visit to the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Northwest Florida as well as my post here about my trip to the High Hampton Inn and Country Club in Cashiers, North Carolina.

travel-blogger-tuesdayHere are a few travel related posts I have been enjoying around the web this week!

Xplor: The Best New Attraction for Families in the Riviera Maya, Mexico at the Vacation Gals – This comprehensive review makes me want to book a trip to Mexico for my family of four just to visit Xplor!

Wisconsin Jelly Belly Tour at the Vacation Gals – I have been to the Jelly Belly Factory in California but didn’t realize they had one in Wisconsin.  Factory tours are such a great way to entertain and learn on vacation.

Experience the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World Resort at The Q Family Adventures – Did you ever want to see what the Grand Floridian had to offer?  Check out this great video by the Q Family!

Ziplining over the Jungle: Tulum Extreme Adventure at 500 Places with Kids – Like last weekend when I had skiing on the brain, this week I have Mexico and ziplining on the brain I guess!  This zipline adventure sounds like lots of fun (minus the small wooden platform blowing in the breeze!).

Macy’s Flower Show: A Taste of Spring Comes to Minnesota at Travels with Children – The pictures of the flowers in this post are beautiful!  I bet seeing the display in person was breathtaking.

Dubai: Desert to Dream at Velvet Escape – After listening to my brother-in-law talk about his trip to Dubai and reading about it in this post, I am ready to pack my bags.

travel-blogger-tuesdayHere are a few posts that I have been reading around the travel blogging sphere!  If you found a great post you would like to share, please leave a comment!

Seven– If you have not read this post by Nerd’s Eye View, you really must head over there.  Words from me would never do it justice.

Mondays are for Dreaming: Taking my Kids to New Zealand – I have always wanted to go to Australia but New Zealand wasn’t ever really on my radar.  Mara makes it sound like a wonderful place to vacation with your children.

Off the Slopes: Out and About at Smuggler’s Notch – I have been skiing once and hated every minute of it.  It just isn’t my cup of tea.  My husband on the other hand is an avid skiier and I believe both of my kids would be if they had the chance. I would be willing (maybe!) to try again but it is nice to know that there are so many other activities available!

Tips for Family Ski Trips from a Former Scaredy Cat Skier – On the other hand, Colleen makes it sound like I could strap those skis back on and give it a try even though right now I think I would rather go bungee jumping (and the thought of bungee jumping turns my legs to JELLO).

Camping: High Falls State Park – We are always looking for new camping spots.  This is less than a day’s drive for us so it makes it feasible for a weekend getaway and my kids would love it!

Disney with Baby: 10 Helpful Hints – We don’t have babies anymore, but we did take a Disney trip when Big S was 10 months old.  This list would have been handy back then!

travel-blogger-tuesdayIs it Tuesday again already?!  Weeks just seem to be flying by now that the weather is getting nicer.  Here are a few things I have been reading this week!

Top 10 Experiences Not to Miss in Panama City – We just went to Panama City this past weekend and Spring Break is in full force!  There are several great family oriented activities on this list.

Wandering Around Downtown St. Petersburg – We love to take the time to just wander around a new city, take pictures, play at a newly discovered park and hold hands with our kids!

Orlando with kids family escape Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate – We are trying to head back to Orlando as a family and this looks like a great place to stay!

Taking the Plunge – Becoming an Advanced Diver – This is something that I would love to do but am just too scared….maybe someday!

Lānaʻi, Hawaii: Scuba Diving the Cathedrals with Trilogy Ocean Sports – I must have scuba diving on the brain! I loved this article because I as I read it I loved her description of how she felt before she jumped in the water!
